Benefit for Libbi.

Tonight there was a benefit show in Chicopee, MA for a good friend of mine.  Libbi has been living with and struggling with multiple forms of cancer for a very long time now.  She has had more surgery’s than I can or care to remember.  She has gone back and forth between good health and the worst health since she was barely out of her teens.  A few months ago her cancer flared up again and attached itself to her spine, rendering her paralyzed from the waist down.  I am told that surgeons and doctors don’t want to operate out of fear that it could kill her. She’ll be living the rest of her life in a wheelchair.

Her husband, Lou, has been a friend of mine since kindergarten and the two of them amaze me every time I see them.  They’re such genuine and caring people dealing with what could be described as one of the worst injustices of the world.  Libbi has searched medically, holistically, spiritually and geographically(Libbi once traveled to Jerusalem in hopes that her cancer would subside) with little to no luck in finding relief.  Even when she has completed treatment and her tests come back 100% negative of cancer cells she somehow manages to only go a few months before another form shows it’s ugly head and she is back at square one.

Well, tonight brought Libbi, Lou, their families and all of our closest friends together.  I Am Disaster, an old western Mass band that Libbi was friends with years ago, reunited for the show.  We had some raffles, we had some pool, we had some tunes and everyone was having fun.  Over 250 people paid for the show!  That’s a lot of people for a local show on a Sunday night.  Defeater was asked to play but unfortunately we were not able to.  In lieu of not being able to play, Jay donated a $100 gift certificate to his studio and we rallied up The Stereo State.  The show was a huge success and my main man, Kevin Burke is responsible.  The guy went all out and really made sure that tonight was special for Libbi.  He did such a great job!  I hung around after we played and I was just so stoked to be part of everything that took place tonight.  I can’t remember the last time I was that proud to be part of something and I’m so happy that Libbi was right in the middle of that feeling and all those thoughts that accompanied it.
