My name is Mike Poulin.
I play bass in a band called Defeater. I keep busy by driving around the country in a van fueled by waste vegetable oil, buying vintage guitar and bass equipment, and watching Arrested Development as much as possible.

Two years ago today my friend Kelly was killed when she got hit by a car on her bike.  Please be careful.
Still miss you like crazy, Kelly.  Thinking about you always.

‘Album Of The Year’ (acoustic demo)

The Goodlife

This record changed my life. Hands down one of my favorite records of all time. Tim Kasher is one of my favorite lyricist and this album is my favorite project of his.

I know it’s blurry but the real photos were too expensive.

Alabama Thunder Pussy.

We played the worst show we’ve ever played last night. Haha. It was at The Seven Venue in Georgia. Seemed like an alright place but I guess the promoter also had A Day To Remember and The Devil Wears Prada in town too. Needless to say that our show was virtually empty. Ha. Also, Im glad I missed it, but I guess there was a group prayer before the show? Siiicck. It’s all good though. We still had a good time hanging out with Energy. After the show we headed towards Memphis where we have a last minute show tonight. We drove about half way through Alabama and found a hotel conveniently located between a Starbucks and Billy Bob’s Firework Outlet. I hope Energy is ready for a roman candle war.

We play Dallas in a few days and we’ve got free passes to Six Flags. Should be a good time!

So we played some Spring Break Kick Off party at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA and somehow it turned into a rave after our set was done. They had some crazy lights, a kid who bought some lame digital DJ thingamajig at Daddy’s Junky Music the day before and was ‘spinning’ some dope jams while college girls got drunk, danced, made out with each other and got hit on by my friend, Ian(see image).

This is awesome! Thats me and the dude from fucked up…sweet!

Go pick this up if you like good jams. New Found Glory, Fucked Up, Napalm Death, Gold Kids, The Bronx, and The Gaslight Anthem. Even Defeater has a small write up in this issue. Thanks, Rock Sound! That makes me happy.

(S)lack of updates.

Just want to apologize for the lack of updates and posts on here. It’s been more of a pain in the ass to post from my phone that I had originally thought but I’m trying to keep it rolling.

We played Philly tonight. Such a good time. Always. Gianna’s, Govinda’s, Pat’s, Pazaro’s, whatever. We can argue about who has the best cheesesteak later. Bottom line is Philly is rad and they have a lot of great food for vegans and non-vegans alike. Also, getting to Philly means we’re in Wawa territory. That’s what’s up. All food aside, Philly was still a lot of fun. We got a great reaction and our friend Justin was a very hospitable promoter/host. Thanks, Justin!
